How Your Custom Staircase Is Built

Every custom staircase we build in the Niagara Region starts with your home, not our catalogue. CAD-designed, CNC-cut, hand-finished — and installed by the same crew that built it in our climate-controlled shop on Lakeshore Road.

01

Consultation & Measurement

We come to your home — measuring the rough opening, tread-to-tread height, headroom clearance, and wall conditions. We discuss wood species preference (white oak, maple, walnut, pine), spindle style, and how the stairs will live in the space. Every measurement is double-confirmed on site; a 2mm discrepancy in layout compounds through every tread. Budget and timeline are discussed openly at this stage.

02

CAD Design

Your staircase is modeled parametrically in CAD — stringer angles, tread overhangs, riser heights, baluster spacing, all computed simultaneously. We verify the design against Ontario Building Code limits (maximum 200mm rise, 220–355mm run for residential stairs). You review a dimensioned drawing before any wood is cut, so what you approve is exactly what we build.

03

CNC Fabrication

Components are cut on our CNC router with sub-millimeter accuracy in our Lakeshore Road shop. Joinery — mortise and tenon, dovetails, finger joints — is machined directly into each piece. Wood behaves differently species to species: oak and maple hold tight tolerances through humidity changes; softer woods get additional joinery margin. Every part is dry-fitted and checked before finishing begins.

04

Hand Finishing

Sanding works up from 60-grit through 120, 180, and 220 before stain or oil is applied. We use structurally rated adhesives and let cure time run fully — no shortcuts that show up six months later. The finish colour you chose in consultation is matched to the sample; grain direction and natural figure vary piece to piece, and we work with that variation to get the result right before it leaves the shop.

05

Installation

On-site installation is by our own crew — the same people who built your staircase in the shop, not subcontractors. We serve St. Catharines and the wider Niagara Region; our team ensures the structure is level, plumb, and solid before we pack up. Every installation is backed by our craftsmanship guarantee: if anything needs adjustment in the first year, we return and make it right.
