Curved handrail joints, spliced from solid oak so the grain carries through the bend. This is one of the most demanding jobs in fine stairbuilding: handrails that follow rounded walls, elliptical stairwells, or custom transitions between floors without a visible break in the profile. Each joint is cut with traditional woodworking techniques and modern precision tooling, then sanded and finished to match the surrounding rail. The process involves carefully selecting and preparing hardwood stock, creating precise templates for each curve, and executing multiple test fits before final fabrication. These curved joints are essential for handrails that follow architectural features such as rounded walls, elliptical stairwells, or custom-designed transitions between floors. The wood used is kiln-dried hardwood that has been acclimated to our Niagara Region workshop conditions to minimize movement after installation. Each joint is thoroughly sanded and finished to match the surrounding handrail, whether it's stained, painted, or left natural. This level of craftsmanship is particularly valuable in high-end residential projects where every detail is scrutinized, and in restoration workmanship that will last for generations. Installation time varies based on complexity but typically adds 1–2 days to a standard handrail project.
